Jacana donates thousands of masks to Jamaican healthcare

Jacana is donating its stock of masks and personal protective equipment (PPE) from its cannabis processing facility to help protect Jamaican healthcare workers on the frontlines of the Covid-19 crisis.

Given the global shortage of personal protective equipment, Jacana felt it was their duty as a Jamaican company to donate its masks and other PPE. Masks are highly effective at capturing large droplets of Covid-19, which is a main transmission route of coronavirus. Masks play a particularly important role in preventing the transmission of Covid-19 from people who have asymptomatic infections. Research from Jeffrey Shaman, a professor at Columbia University who has gathered key evidence since the initial outbreak in China, estimates that 86% of infections are currently undetected.

In tandem with this donation, Jacana launches #JamaicansUnite, a campaign to encourage all businesses and individuals to step up and do what they can to help fellow Jamaicans and communities in this time of need.

We hope that this #JamaicansUnite campaign will encourage other Jamaican companies to join the fight in whatever way they can, large or small. We are a fairly young company and we hope that this donation will spark ideas and create a movement for others to contribute. Already we are joined by another great Jamaican company, Tropical Battery, in the #JamaicansUnite campaign, which is donating alkaline batteries to hospitals. Everyone has something to offer as we fight this virus together as one nation,” said Alexandra Chong, Jacana CEO.

Now more than ever, Jacana remains dedicated to regenerative health, universal well-being, and supporting all Jamaicans any way they can.

As part of the #JamaicansUnite campaign, here are 5 things that Jacana is doing to adapt their business and support their customers and the communities affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

5 ways Jacana is helping Jamaicans fight Covid-19

1. Donating personal protective equipment

Jacana is donating thousands of masks to Jamaican healthcare workers fighting this crisis on the frontlines.

2. Growing free vegetables for our community

Jacana is repurposing part of its farm to grow free vegetables for the local communities in St. Ann. Further details will be announced.

3. Enhanced safety & sanitisation measures

Jacana has enacted a strict sanitization protocol at their dispensary to ensure the safety of its employees and guests. This includes the mandatory wearing of masks for all Jacana staff members.

4. Pre-order/curbside pickup

To keep customers and staff safe, Jacana now offers curbside pickup and pre-order services. Customers can simply call and place their order (by phone at 1 876 667 1183, WhatsApp at 1 876 883 5103, online using Leafly, or the Jacana Express Menu) and the Jacana dispensary staff will deliver the order to their car.

5. Online Registration

To reduce time in-store, Jacana now accepts online registration at www.jacana.life/pre-register. Customers will still need a doctor’s consultation before purchasing cannabis and can call to schedule (by phone at 1 876 667 1183 or via WhatsApp at 1 876 883 5103).
